History:

Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Not only was she the goddess of hunting, the moon, and wild animals, but also the goddess of the wilderness, childbirth, and the protection of young girls up to the age of marriage. She had the power to poison and heal a person's life in a blink of an eye, and it was said ,that if a woman died a quick and painless death, that they were hit by one of Artemis' silver arrows. She was considered very vengeful and had killed many out of her anger. In one of the interesting myths written about her, she joined her twin brother, Apollo, in slaying all the children of Niobe. This awful women was married to the king of Thebes, Amphion, and became a mother to 12 beautifully children. Niobe thought that since she birthed such a great amount, that she was superior to Leto, Apollo's and Artemis' mother, who only gave birth to 2. The queen, being her proud self,  even announced it to her whole kingdom ,and the godly twins did not like that one bit. They did not tolerate someone talking rudely about their mother, so they went to Thebes and shot most of her children with their arrows. The remaining few and their mother were turn into stone by Zeus.

Artemis was one of the 3 virgin goddesses. Her Roman name was Diana and some of her symbols included the moon, a bow and arrow, and a deer. She was very strong and one of the bravest of the brave.
